The International Olympiad on Astronomy & Astrophysics is the biggest astronomy competition for high-school students, testing a wide range of skills that an astronomer needs to have:

Test your knowledge of advanced theoretical concepts, such as cosmology or celestial mechanics.

Observation
Observe celestial objects with a telescope and solve problems in the planetarium.

Data analysis
Use data collected by giant telescopes and space observatories to get to know more about celestial phenomena.
who am i?
I’m Dr. Gergely Dálya, an astrophysicist at the French Space Agency. I have been an IOAA contestant twice, and since then, for more than 10 years, I have been preparing the Hungarian team for the competition. Recently, I have also been working with the Saudi Arabian team. My book, Introduction to Astronomy, has been used by the Hungarian, Romanian and Saudi Arabian teams for successful preparation for the Olympiad. On this website, I would like to share some useful preparation materials for astronomy competitions.
